Week 3: Katherine Vetne & Hlebitza

The first artist is Katherine Vetne who works with metal, heavy metals at that. Her style is the use of traditional materials and techniques but in a contemporary way. Most of the art that I have looked at she has created pieces of metal and made them look almost like liquid. Vetne's color pallet is gold, silver, and black. I find her pieces to be interesting because metal is such a solid compound I do not feel like seeing it in an almost liquid like form is normal. However it is beautiful and so intriguing to gaze at. Moving to Hlebtiza, they use wire and sometimes mesh to create their artwork. I have a hard time finding a biography on this individual however from the artwork I can see that the lines are sharp but fluid at the same time. Just as Vetne was able to make metal look liquid, Hlebtiza takes wire and makes beautiful faces, bodies, and brains made from wire. I think they are different in the way that they use different materials and techniques to be able to create the art that they do. Bending and molding for Hlebtiza and somehow melting or liquifying metal as Vetne does.
